A Half-century monopoly (1880-1930s): the black diamonds (carbonados) of Bahia and Jewish Merchants

Marc W. Herold, Samuel Rines

Resumo

Bahia’s black diamond (carbonado) production and trade is rarely mentioned in the academic literature though reports were made in popular magazines, in U.S and British consular reports and in trade journals. Carbonados began figuring importantly in Bahia’s exports after the invention of the Leschot diamond head drill in 1862.
